Waste from the latest regional elections in the edict with which the Termoli Tomorrow civic formation literally excommunicated the progressive tandem that chose to focus on the candidate for mayor Manuela Vigilante, repeating the mistake that saw Domenico Iannacone removed for favor Roberto Gravina. The judgment expressed against the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement was very harsh. The civic component had created the civic coalition together with three other formations, which was then extended (after some turnover) to the civic-progressive coalition. Now, the edict of “excommunication”, which recalls the experience of 2023 in the Molise Region, when Roberto Gravina was preferred to Domenico Iannacone. «The regional and local leaders of the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement have organized an unprecedented political-electoral disaster in our Molise. In less than two years they have eliminated parliamentary representation and have opposed, with a failed outcome, the candidacy for the presidency of the Molise Region of an authoritative and credible personality such as that of Domenico Iannacone. They did so regardless of the damage caused by this irresponsible management to the progressive electorate, but also to those belonging to the moderate component who do not recognize themselves in the principles and policies of the right-wing parties currently in government. Right-wingers who are now preparing to receive an (unexpected?) assist for the next electoral competition. On the eve of the renewal of the Termoli municipal council, the contribution of citizens and representatives of civil society who, finally aware of having to offer their service to the City, had taken the field with a concrete program was completely ignored. A program of short-term actions, to address the most acute problems our territory suffers from, and medium/long-term actions to prefigure the Termoli of the near future as an innovative, inclusive, sustainable city. In reality, in this petty and shameful war of power, no party of the right or left has so far felt the need to develop a program and put it before names. For their part, the Democratic Party and the 5 Stars imposed and officially presented Joe Mileti as a candidate for the position of mayor of Termoli and then unexpectedly replaced him with Manuela Vigilante, as if it were a private affair, without feeling obliged to give a plausible explanation to their change of direction. We do not know what the outcome of this improvident undertaking will be, but progressives and all those who do not share the logic of the current right cannot continue to suffer the harassment of a presumed ruling class interested in protecting their particular interests. On the 8th and 9th of next June, we will also be called to vote for the renewal of the European Parliament. This is an important event that will see a clear contrast between the pro-European forces, the Eurosceptic ones and those who openly want to destroy Europe, such as Matteo Salvini’s League. We at Termoli Domani are on the field alongside pro-European, progressive and left-wing parties. We do it because we know that Italy has a future only within a stronger, more cohesive and more democratic Europe. We are deeply convinced that those who stand against a cohesive and supportive Europe are actually working against Italy’s interests and we are fighting to ensure that the right wing of Salvini, Meloni and Tajani emerges defeated in the European elections.” But it was also Mileti who came out into the open yesterday morning, reiterating how he will move forward. «As regards the rumors that the Democratic Party is trying to make me join them by giving up my candidacy for mayor, they are totally unfounded, and of course there is nothing else, I have always been independent with my civic lists and they are the ones who wanted to join me and the opposite could never happen, their “politics” does not belong to me.”
