To allow the organization and carrying out of the “GIRO E” cycling race, a collateral event to the 6th stage of the Giro d’Italia from Viareggio to Rapolano Terme, the Fortezza di Siena car park will be closed from today (Wednesday 8 May 2024) after the weekly market until 8pm tomorrow (9 May 2024).

The Stadium car park will remain open as normal.

Here are all the changes to traffic:

From 5pm today, Wednesday 8th (in continuation of the traditional prohibition order for the weekly goods market) to 8pm on Thursday 9th May, in viale Cesare Maccari (the entire street in the stretch between the intersections with Lizza and viale Franci / viale Cadorna – “Fortezza” car park exit bars), viale XXV Aprile (the entire area used as paid parking and involved in the weekly goods market) and viale della Vecchia: transit ban and permanent parking ban with forced removal with the exception of vehicles authorized / employed in organizing the event and interested in the service of setting up and positioning the structures for the event.

From 6pm today, Wednesday 8th, to 8pm tomorrow, Thursday 9th May, in viale Vittorio Veneto (on the right edge of the roadway, in reference to the direction of travel from via Arturo Pannilunghi towards viale Trento) permanent parking ban with removal forced with the involvement of the six parking spaces for charging electric vehicles; in via Giuseppe Garibaldi (in the area facing house numbers 64 and 66) permanent parking ban with forced removal involving the four parking spaces for charging electric vehicles; in Strada di Pescaia (in the area intended for parking buses and campers called “il Fagiolone” – on a portion of the left edge in the stretch between the entrance to the car park and the area equipped with systems for waste water discharge and water recharge) permanent parking ban with forced removal with the exception of the vehicles of the fitters and those responsible for the logistical organization of the “Giro E” event.

From 6 am to 4 pm tomorrow, Thursday 9 May, in Piazza del Campo (the stretch between the intersections with via Giovanni Duprè and via di Salicotto) there will be a ban on transit and a ban on permanent parking with forced removal with the exception of authorized/employee vehicles to the organization of the event and interested in the service of setting up and positioning the structures for the event.

From 11 am until the end of the event starting from the “Giro E” tomorrow, Thursday 9 May, in Piazza del Campo, via Rinaldini, via di Salicotto (the stretch between the intersections with Piazza del Campo and vicolo della Manna) ban on transit; in via del Casato di Sotto, transit is prohibited with the exception of vehicles belonging to residents or vehicles headed for authorized garages located in the same street which are permitted to transit, until the physical closure implemented on Piazza del Campo, in an alternating one-way regime with the right to precedence for the normally permitted route (entry and exit from the Casato di Sopra – via della Fonte intersection); in via del Casato di Sopra prohibition of transit for vehicles with a total mass exceeding 3.5 tonnes and, at the intersection with via della Fonte, obligation to turn right in via della Fonte towards via Giovanni Duprè with following itineraries permitted.

At the moment of departure and along the transfer route from the Lizza area towards Piazza del Campo (La Lizza – Matteotti – Pianigiani – Banchi di Sopra – Banchi di Sotto – via Rinaldini and Piazza del Campo) and from the moment of actual departure from Piazza del Campo (with route via Rinaldini – Banchi di Sotto – via di Città – via delle Terme – via della Sapienza – piazza di San Domenico – viale dei Mille – viale XXV – viale Vittorio Veneto – via Montesanto – via Cesare Battisti – strada di Pescaia – State road 73 Ponente and Strada Grossetana) in the times between the start of the race and until the end of the race, in the roads, streets and intersections involved in or relating to the route identified by the passage (in particular on the sections traveled in the opposite direction to normally permitted), the necessary closure measures and temporary suspension of traffic will be implemented to ensure the correct running of the event and the safety of participants and other users.

From 12 noon to 1pm tomorrow, Thursday 9 May, the traffic light system that regulates the intersection via Cesare Battisti – via Ricasoli – Pescaia – Caserma Lamarmora, if deemed useful, can be modulated only in the flashing yellow phase.

It should be noted that the provisions cited in the ordinance could undergo any changes or additions in reference to possible organizational problems or new provisions of the competent authorities.
