Liguria, 220 thousand euros in cash found in the house of former Genoa president Spinelli

The financial police seized 220 thousand euros in cash and foreign currency from the entrepreneur Aldo Spinelli as part of the investigation which led to the president of the Liguria region Giovanni Toti being placed under house arrest for corruption. The sum, kept in the safe, is part of the 570 thousand euros of the seizure ordered by the judge for preliminary investigations Paola Faggioni. The investigation which accuses the governor of having sold out “his function and his powers” also foresees a line of electoral corruption aggravated precisely by the mafia agenda in which his head of cabinet Matteo Cozzani is involved. While the plot described by the prosecutor also concerns two Esselunga supermarkets in the region and a contract on a free beach which becomes private for the needs of local entrepreneurs.

Warranty interrogations

The judge also ordered the seizure of the then president of the port authority Paolo Signorini and Spinelli’s son, Roberto. According to the investigating judge “they would be the profit of the corruption crimes contested”. Furthermore, two compressed air rifles were found at Aldo Spinelli’s house, whose potential will need to be assessed, and three hunting rifles. The weapons, an inheritance from her mother-in-law, had been reported by the lady until 2015. The entrepreneur, however, did not renew the report to the police station and therefore, in a separate file, he is responsible for failure to report. Meanwhile, the investigating judge has scheduled the interrogation of the governor of Liguria for Friday. Logistics entrepreneur Spinelli and Toti’s chief of staff Matteo Cozzani will instead be questioned on Saturday.
