The restyling process of the Purple Planet continues, the city’s temple of sport and the flagship of the sports facilities of the entire district. After the recovery of the internal gyms and playing fields, recently used by the FIGC-Lnd for the final stages of the Regions Tournament, the Metropolitan City is now focusing on the recovery of the external parts. Through a loan of 400,000 euros from Credito Sportivo, Palazzo Alvaro will proceed with the modernization of the tennis, five-a-side football and volleyball courts built, together with the entire structure, in the mid-1990s. Mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà, together with deputy mayor Carmelo Versace, attended the formal handover of the works.
The objective, in fact, is to make, as a whole, a structure that has helped to train entire generations of young people from Reggio and which has seen some of the most important athletes in world basketball take its place. The redevelopment project, therefore, involves the complete resurfacing of the external fields (5-a-side football and tennis/volleyball), the related lighting systems and the installation of new perimeter fences around the playing areas. The company in charge of carrying out the works will then proceed with the installation of suitable systems and equipment for sports, the covering of the poles for lighting the fields with anti-trauma panels, and the restoration of portions of internal roads and degraded walkways.
The entire route will be improved with new lighting points and the entire rainwater disposal network will be re-functionalized. The sports area will be separated from the services area and a ramp will be built that can also grant entry to athletes and citizens with disabilities. The redevelopment intervention will therefore be completed with the removal of spontaneous vegetation and the regeneration of green areas. Finally, furnishing elements necessary for the regular and orderly carrying out of sports practice will be purchased.
