Deaths at work, CGIL Terni: “we cannot remain indifferent”

“The general assembly of the CGIL of Terni, meeting on Tuesday 7 May, deems it no longer acceptable to witness continuous deaths at work on a daily basis”. This is what we read in the agenda approved at the end of the work by the Terni union, which underlines how Umbria continues to hold a “sad record” in terms of accidents at work: 2,633 in the first three months of 2024, of which over 500 in the province of Terni.

“The Casteldaccia incident in the Palermo area – we read in the agenda – is, as stated by the President of the Republic Mattarella, yet another massacre that cannot leave us indifferent. For this reason it is necessary to mobilize, as we already did last April 11th with the strike, to ask for rapid interventions to stem this phenomenon starting from the demands that as a union we have been urging for some time in the field of health-environment-safety, both towards the Government that of local institutions, which, by not intervening on the rules of the free market, implicitly fuel the shadow on contracts and sub-contracts”.

According to the CGIL of Terni, the labor market, tenders and the fight against precarious employment represent “the fundamental points on which to intervene to restore dignity to work”. For these reasons the whole CGIL is mobilized in the referendum action launched last April 25th to change the rules regarding dismissals, precariousness, contracts and safety. “The referendums represent the opportunity to animate territorial protagonism where, alongside the process of collecting signatures, it will be possible to put these fundamental issues, too often neglected by the political and electoral debate, back at the center of public attention”.

“The historical transition we are going through – concludes the CGIL of Terni – requires us to make an extraordinary effort to really change things. This is why we intend to relaunch and strengthen our action on behalf of the many people who trust us every day and who really want to change this society.”
