Third escape in six days for the petrol station arsonist: he will be guarded in hospital

It seems incredible, but it really happened: the arsonist who had set the fire to the ‘Coil’ petrol station, on the corner between Piazza Caduti sul Lavoro and Via Tommaso Gulli, managed to escape again for the third time in less than a week. The 25-year-old, originally from Mali, left the psychiatric department of the hospital again on Sunday, where he was – and is – under house arrest after the dangerous arson act, which could have had very serious consequences.

The man had managed to escape two days earlier, last Friday, and even earlier on Tuesday. But there is a long story behind him: already in mid-April, before the fire, the arsonist had already ended up in handcuffs accused of robbery against a compatriot, who was also homeless. In 2023, however, he was arrested for resisting a public official after being caught kicking some cars.

And so on Sunday the 25-year-old left the hospital again, being reached by the police who immobilized him and then took him back to psychiatry – among other things it seems that there were not only three escape attempts, but only these three they would actually succeed. To try to avoid a fourth escape, the judge for preliminary investigations – after having validated the arrest – ordered that the man be guarded 24 hours a day in the hospital, where he is serving house arrest. The arsonist, in fact, is considered a dangerous individual. The news was reported in local newspapers on newsstands on Wednesday.
