Lions Club San Vittore Olona scores a basket with Slums Dunk, the non-profit organization led by Bruno Cerella and Tommaso Marino to «improve the living conditions of children and young people living in economically and socially degraded areas of Africa». Friday 3 May, in fact, the Lions organized an evening together with the two basketball players at the Tirinnanzi Institute in Legnano to give voice to the project that has animated the non-profit organization in these ten years of activity and to support it: the evening, in fact, was an opportunity to deliver a donation of 1,400 euros to Slums Dunkthe result of the sale of 100 liters of extra virgin olive oil donated by the president of the San Vittore Olona Lions Club Angela Passarello.

Slums Dunk is a reality created to «give everyone the chance to make their dreams come true, without leaving anyone behind – as the non-profit organization’s website explains -. Even those who are born and grow up in the most difficult contexts deserve to be able to dream big: they do it through a ball, a basket, a playing field, the guidance of their coaches and the smiles of their friends.” And that’s exactly how it was born the first basketball court built in the Mathare slum in Nairobi, Kenyain 2014, where the non-profit organization also activated a mini-basketball school involving 100 children and provides support to ten informal schools in the slum with the involvement of around a thousand children under 15 years of age.

Today Slums Dunk basketball courts are also present in Cambodia, Kenya, Zambia and Argentina, and the non-profit organization also has projects in Italy to involve children and young people from vulnerable backgrounds with social initiatives through sport and promote values ​​of integration and inclusion also through the creation of basketball courts.
