Formula 1 will return to Imola next May and the works and new curbs are being completed at the racetrack.

The Enzo and Dino Ferrari racetrack in Imola aims to make up for it after a year of 2023 which saw the GP canceled at the end of May. While waiting to see the single-seaters on the Santerno circuit, the Imola racetrack hosted the WEC championship prototypes in the second half of April. An absolute novelty for the Endurance World Championship which saw a renewed layout. In fact, for the occasion a work on the structures and new curbs in Imola is at a rapid pace.

Several weeks ago, the Imola racetrack announced some interventions to various pit structures and grandstands. Among these is the very famous tower which is located at the end of the pit lane which will undergo a major restyling. There will be no shortage of news in terrace located above the garages where a new Paddock Club will be set up. The interventions will also concern the stands, also taking into consideration the many fans who will come to the racetrack to follow the weekend.

However, to comply with the increasingly stringent safety regulations imposed by the FIA, the Imola racetrack is gearing up to improve this aspect. It won’t just be safety that will improve, in fact, the organizers are working to eliminate it track limits problem. Among the interventions we can find the removal of cement outside the mineral water bend, where drivers often went over the curb to be faster. An intervention that will probably remove the iconic “IMOLA” signature visible from aerial shots. In addition to this characteristic variant of the circuit, there are interventions also on the Tamburello variant, the first after the finish line. From the photos we can see that the curbs of this sequence of curves have been changed. The bollards that made cars “jump” as they passed have been eliminated. Now I’m curbs with steps have been implemented to make the drivers feel the true limit of the track.

Update February 22nd: The changes to the curbs will not only affect the Tamburello variant, but all the curves of the Imola circuit. A change essential to improve safety standards, obtained with the installation of concrete sausages just before the gravel. The changes made to the curbs do not only focus on the safety aspect, but look also to track limits with the aim of eliminating them. The Piratella curves and the Variante Alta will also be modified to eliminate this problem. At Acque Minerali, there will remain one small portion of concrete to position the F1 sponsors and the iconic “IMOLA” writing.
