Giorgio Benelli, activist and photographer, has died

Giorgio Benelliactivist, photographer and environmentalist, died on Monday 6 May at the age of 81 years oldhospitalized for a few days.

Benelli worked in the analysis laboratory in the province of Ravenna, but above all he was driven by various passions. First of all the politics: he was among the founders of the Ravenna branch of Lotta Continua in the 1970s. Then the sea and the landscape: he was traveler and photographer. Benelli was among the first to carry out aerial photos of Ravenna. Among others, he filmed the construction of the roundabout at the intersection of Via Ravegnana and Via Adriatica, testifying to the transformation of the city and its territory.

Many environmental battles to preserve the Ravenna ecosystem, such as the issue of the relocation of the excavation sludge from the port of Ravenna and the protection of the dunes in front of the Colonia di Marina di Ravenna, where at the time they wanted to build a bathing establishment.

The funeral will be held at the mortuary at 4.45pm on Tuesday 8 May, departing for the Ravenna cemetery.
