In Cuneo a new regulation for urban furnishings and decoration is in force

The new municipal regulation for urban furnishings and decoration has come into force. Prepared by the urban planning, productive activities, environmental policies and mobility, street furniture and landscape protection sectors, the new text manages to simplify, rationalize and align the pre-existing tools that regulated all aspects relating to this dimension of city life. The new regulation complements the urban planning and land planning regulatory instruments. The regulations are accompanied by annexes relating to monobloc display cases and historic display cases and to the color indications for Piazza Galimberti.

The Regulation applies in relation to new interventions and installations; it has no retroactive value on authorized situations.

The previous regulation was dated 2001; over the years, guidelines had been added which gave indications on more specific and complementary aspects (commercial fronts, historic cities, constructions in extra-urban areas). The new Regulation now includes and replaces all previous regulations, also in light of the innovations that have occurred in recent years in the field of materials, types of elements treated and construction techniques, the needs of operators, the greater sensitivity towards the protection of historical image. The underlying criterion is the pre-eminent public interest of redevelopment, valorisation and better use of the city’s public spaces. The focus is more on the oldest part of the city, rich in history and tradition, where in some situations there are out of place elements, perceived as such not only by experts and technicians, but also by the community.

The image of the city has been altered by the passage of time, by transformation processes, by improvised solutions or linked to tastes and needs that are inconsistent and not rigorous with respect to the urban context, with a multitude of discordant signals and colors”, they explain from the competent Department. “Now the choice is to recover the urban identity of Cuneo, with its cultural and environmental remains, to protect and enhance it. With this important objective we worked on the new regulation”.

The visual identity of the city is in fact given by the complementarity between the architectural fabric, with the verticality of the building facades, and horizontal elements, such as signs, shop windows, shop furnishings, awnings, fountains, benches. The Regulation sets criteria for quality control and protection of the two dimensions, both that of the facades of the buildings and the ground floors of the buildings that house commercial activities.
