Punch in the face and broken jaw for a prison officer attacked in Terni

Punch in the face – The situation at Prison House of Terni worsened, with a series of violent episodes which saw the police once again victims of attacks. Trade unionists, worried about the safety and well-being of their colleagues, have now proclaimed a state of unrest and are organizing forms of protest to demand immediate action.

According to reports from trade unionistsamong which the figures of Sergio Mastroberti And Giulia Bianconi, very active union representatives, the latest series of incidents has highlighted the growing danger of the prison environment. The most serious episode occurred last Saturday when a medium security prisoner of Algerian origin punched a policeman in section “H” in the face, causing him to have a broken jaw and a twenty-day prognosis.

Another accident occurred in the morning today, when the police had to intervene to save a prisoner who was trying to hang himself, expressing his desire not to remain in Terni. Later, the same evening, an Italian prisoner with psychiatric problems attacked another policeman, who wanted to speak to the commander, hitting him with his fist. Also in this case, the policeman had to receive medical treatment with a prognosis of six days.

The growing number of prisoners, which has risen since 525 to 575 since last February, despite promises of a “mini displacement” by the Regional Superintendent, it has only exacerbated tensions. Police officers find themselves in an increasingly difficult situation, with growing concerns for their personal safety and that of their colleagues.

In response to this situation unsustainable, the unions have decided to declare a state of unrest, while planning legitimate protest actions to ensure that no policeman has to fear for his safety while on duty. The intent is to ensure that no officer should feel abandoned anymore and that they can return home to their families without fearing for their lives.

These events draw attention to the serious gaps in managing security within prisons, raising urgent questions about the measures the administration is taking to protect those who work in high-risk conditions every day.
