POZZUOLI – There are 1252 earthquakes recorded in the month of April in the Campi Flegrei area. The maximum magnitude detected by seismographs is 3.9. Of these events, 1085 (approximately 86.7% of the total) had a magnitude less than 1.0 or could not be determined due to the low amplitude of the signal not clearly distinguishable from the background noise; 132 events (10.5% of the total) had a magnitude between 1.0 and 1.9; 30 events (2.4% of the total) had a magnitude between 2.0 and 2.9, and 5 events (0.4% of the total) had a magnitude between 3.0 and 3.9. In total, 979 earthquakes were located (about 78% of those recorded), located mainly between Pozzuoli, Agnano, the Solfatara-Pisciarelli area, Bagnoli and in the Gulf of Pozzuoli, with depths concentrated in the first 3 km and maximum depth of approximately 4.5km.
SOIL DEFORMATION – In the latest INGV bulletin we read that an uplift of approximately 3 cm was recorded in the area of maximum deformation, with a discontinuous trend. The uplift recorded at the RITE GNSS station is approximately 125 cm since November 2005, of which approximately 92 cm since January 2016. The maximum surface temperature values of the IR time series in the Pisciarelli and Solfatara areas show stable trends. The geochemical parameters confirm the multi-year trends of heating and pressurization of the hydrothermal system. The flow of CO2 from the ground in the Solfatara area is confirmed to be high, estimated at around 4000 t/d, values comparable to those found in the plume of active volcanoes with persistent degassing.
