A man was hit and killed on Via del Mare, at the Tor di Valle traffic light, which connects the road with the Roma Lido station. It was hit by a Volkswagen Transporter van traveling towards Ostia at kilometer 10,250. The impact occurred just before 6 am today, Wednesday 8 May.
The driver of the van, a 57-year-old Italian man, stopped immediately after the impact. The local police and the 118 medical staff were on site and, despite attempts at resuscitation, were unable to do anything other than confirm the victim’s death.
The road was not closed, but partially diverted at Via dell’Ippodromo di Tor di Valle, with cars lined up for several kilometres, ready to exit onto Via Ostiense. Investigations are underway by the X Mare group of the local police to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident and to trace the identity of the victim, currently unknown, as the man had no documents. He is the 50th road fatality of 2024 in Rome and its province.
