Hundreds took to the streets in front of the prefecture of Catanzaro, coming from all over Calabria, to ask for the stabilization of the trainees

CATANZARO – Hundreds, coming from all over Calabria, took to the streets yesterday morning in front of the Catanzaro prefecture to relaunch the dispute of the Calabrian trainees.
Around 15 buses and dozens of cars reached the capital in response to the mobilization launched by NIdiL Cgil, FeLSA Cisl, UIL Temp and Usb FdS. The approval of an amendment to the Milleproroghe provided for the possibility of contracting trainees for 18 months at 18 hours. Furthermore, a partial technical definition – the unions underline – excluded approximately 500 workers from the procedures.

The same rule, however, refers to a financial allocation of only 5 million euros which is completely insufficient for a requirement of approximately 70 million euros per year. Contractualization, therefore, is currently, according to the unions, only a theoretical possibility, given the situation of chronic financial deficit in which the Calabrian local authorities find themselves, and the real risk is that what was achieved through the union struggles will remain a dead letter. The funds necessary for the contractualization of this large slice of Calabrian precarious employment, however, could be found in the months of May and June when the discussion of the budget adjustment will be started in Parliament, in addition to amending the technical definition of the bodies that can contract and thus recover the excluded workers.

MARRIED: NO MORE FALSE PROMISES

“It is no longer possible to continue not giving answers to workers and making promises that cannot then be kept” – declared the general secretary of the CGIL Angelo Sposato. «The solution that has been identified at national level is not sufficient because it does not guarantee the contractualization of workers. What we ask the government is to do in addition to the law which should be improved, because it does not include all the workers in question as well as the funding necessary to carry out the contractualization and we will not stop here if no answers arrive from the government and the Region which has also committed to supporting municipal bodies and administrations, we will continue with the fight and raise the level” – assured Sposato.

RUSSO: FINDING THE NECESSARY RESOURCES

For the secretary of the CISL, Tonino Russo «we need to work cohesively, we need to immediately find the necessary resources to give dignity to these workers, above all to proceed with the commitment and the agreement also signed with the trade unions, i.e. those to contract these workers for 18 hours . To be able to contract these 18-hour workers, 70 million are needed.”
«All of Calabria – said USB secretary Saverio Bertoluzzi – will find itself in the middle of the street in a few months. The social hardship will not only be for the individual intern, but it will be a social hardship for the whole of Calabria.”

SENESE: «AS IF IT WERE NORMAL TO HAVE PRECARIOUS WORK AS PRACTICE IN CALABRIA»

«We have 4,200 workers behind us – underlined the general secretary of Uil Maria Elena Senese. «I remember that these people have guaranteed the municipal administrations to move forward, the services in the territories and today there is the risk that they will not be stabilized and as if in Calabria it was normal to have precarious work as a practice. These are the so-called ghost workers.”
