The throwing of the diane began today’s celebrations for St. Nicholas. With the arrival of hundreds of pilgrims who participated in the masses since dawn. The first procession was held at 6.45 am with the statue of the Saint through the alleys of Bari Vecchia, and then continued along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Corso Cavour, the pier of San Nicholas where the statue will remain until 10am when the mass will begin with the archbishop of Bari Bitonto, mons. Giuseppe Satriano. Will follow theboarding of the statue of the Saint at 12pm into the sea, and then returning at 8pm in procession to Piazza del Ferrarese. The lights will then be turned on. The day will end at 10pm with the fireworks display.

The same streets as yesterday, 7 May, remain closed: Piazza della Basilica and the surrounding alleys, the Imperatore Augusto seafront, Corso Vittorio Emanuele including all the crossroads with Via Piccinni, Corso Cavour between Via Cognetti and Piazzale IV Novembre and between Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Via Principe Amedeo, the Nazario Sauro seafront up to the via Di Vagno bridge and all the crossroads between the seafront and via Dalmazia.

Bus and Park and ride variations

Wednesday 8 Maythe route changes will affect lines 1, 2, 2/, 4, 10, 12, 14, 22, 27, 42 and 50. The last departures of lines 1, 2, 2/, 3 will be postponed to midnight. 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 11/, 12/, 13, 19, 20, 21, 22, 27 and 53 and the shuttles “A”, “B” and “C” (park and ride Pane e pomodoro, Largo Due Giugno and Corso Vittorio Veneto) with the last departures postponed to 2 am. The Marisabella shuttle service will also be activated.

from the start of the service at 1.00 pm and from 6.00 pm to the end of the service towards Piscine Comunali: the buses will carry out the ordinary route;

in the direction of CS Polivalente Japigia: the buses arriving in Piazza Luigi di Savoia will continue along via Carulli, via Giandomenico Petroni, via Dalmazia, Garibaldi overpass with a resumption of the ordinary route;

towards Piscine Comunali: the buses arriving in via Carulli will continue along via Prospero Petroni, via Melo, via Caduti di via Fani, piazza Moro, via R. De Cesare, via A. da Bari, via Piccinni, piazza Garibaldi, via Bonazzi , Corso Vittorio Veneto, with resumption of the ordinary route;

All existing stops along the aforementioned route variations will be made. Temporary stops will be established in:

  • Corso Trieste loop outside the Pane e Pomodoro rest area

The rest areas will be active from 5 am to 1 am, and in any case until the end of the needs. The service will be available with the usual park & ​​ride formula: €1 + €0.30 for each passenger transported by the vehicle left parked other than the driver.

Once the availability of parking spaces in the “Vittorio Veneto-land side” parking area is exhausted, the parking areas via Verdi, near the municipal swimming pools, will be activated.
