The throwing of the diane began today’s celebrations for St. Nicholas. With the arrival of hundreds of pilgrims who participated in the masses since dawn. The first procession was held at 6.45 am with the statue of the Saint through the alleys of Bari Vecchia, and then continued along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Corso Cavour, the pier of San Nicholas where the statue will remain until 10am when the mass will begin with the archbishop of Bari Bitonto, mons. Giuseppe Satriano. Will follow theboarding of the statue of the Saint at 12pm into the sea, and then returning at 8pm in procession to Piazza del Ferrarese. The lights will then be turned on. The day will end at 10pm with the fireworks display.
The same streets as yesterday, 7 May, remain closed: Piazza della Basilica and the surrounding alleys, the Imperatore Augusto seafront, Corso Vittorio Emanuele including all the crossroads with Via Piccinni, Corso Cavour between Via Cognetti and Piazzale IV Novembre and between Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Via Principe Amedeo, the Nazario Sauro seafront up to the via Di Vagno bridge and all the crossroads between the seafront and via Dalmazia.
Bus and Park and ride variations
Wednesday 8 Maythe route changes will affect lines 1, 2, 2/, 4, 10, 12, 14, 22, 27, 42 and 50. The last departures of lines 1, 2, 2/, 3 will be postponed to midnight. 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 11/, 12/, 13, 19, 20, 21, 22, 27 and 53 and the shuttles “A”, “B” and “C” (park and ride Pane e pomodoro, Largo Due Giugno and Corso Vittorio Veneto) with the last departures postponed to 2 am. The Marisabella shuttle service will also be activated.
The routes will vary as provided below:
line 1
in the direction of Lido Lucciola – S. Spirito: the buses will follow the ordinary route;
in the direction of Piazza Moro: the buses arriving in Piazza Garibaldi will continue along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Via Q.no Sella, C.so Italia and Piazza Moro;
line 2
from the start of the service at 1.00 pm and from 6.00 pm to the end of the service towards Piscine Comunali: the buses will carry out the ordinary route;
in the direction of CS Polivalente Japigia: the buses arriving in Piazza Luigi di Savoia will continue along via Carulli, via Giandomenico Petroni, via Dalmazia, Garibaldi overpass with a resumption of the ordinary route;
line 2/
towards Piscine Comunali: the buses arriving in via Carulli will continue along via Prospero Petroni, via Melo, via Caduti di via Fani, piazza Moro, via R. De Cesare, via A. da Bari, via Piccinni, piazza Garibaldi, via Bonazzi , Corso Vittorio Veneto, with resumption of the ordinary route;
in the direction of via Conenna (S.Anna): buses arriving in Corso Vittorio Veneto will turn right onto Via Pizzoli, Piazza Garibaldi, Via Piccinni, Via Q.no Sella, Corso Italia, Piazza Moro, Via Caduti di Via Fani, Via Melo , via Prospero Petroni, via Carulli, via Giandomenico Petroni, via Dalmazia, Garibaldi overpass with resumption of the ordinary route;

The last departures of lines 1, 2, 2/, 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 11/, 12/, 13, 19, 20, 21, 22, 27 and 53 will be postponed to midnight.
Shuttle “A”
from the start of service to 02:00 (last departure) and in any case until the end of the needs:
departing from the “Vittorio Veneto-land side” rest area: the buses will travel along Corso Vittorio Veneto, Via Pizzoli, Piazza Garibaldi, they will cover the entire perimeter of the aforementioned square, Via Bonazzi, Corso Vittorio Veneto, the “Vittorio Veneto” rest area -land side” (terminus);
NB Once the availability of parking spaces in the “Vittorio Veneto-land side” parking area is exhausted, the buses arriving will continue along Corso Vittorio Veneto and turn onto Viale Orlando, Via Portoghese, Via di Maratona, will make a U-turn and will return in via Portoghese, viale Orlando, corso Vittorio Veneto, “Vittorio Veneto-land side” rest area.
Shuttle “B”
from the start of service to 02:00 (last departure) and in any case until the end of the needs:
departing from the temporary terminus of via Cognetti: the buses will travel along Corso Cavour, via Carulli, via Giandomenico Petroni, via Dalmazia, via Di Vagno, inversion under the Garibaldi bridge, Corso Trieste, via Caduti del 28 Luglio, via Ballestrero, rest area “Pane e Pomodoro”, Corso Trieste, will turn left onto Via Di Vagno, Corso Sonnino, Via Carulli, Via De Giosa, Via Cognetti.
Shuttle “C”
from the start of service to 02:00 (last departure) and in any case until the end of the needs:
departing from the “Largo 2 Giugno” rest area (terminus), via della Resistenza, viale della Repubblica, viale Unità d’Italia, under via Luigi di Savoia, via De Giosa, via Cognetti, left onto Corso Cavour, Ponte XX September, viale Unità d’Italia, viale della Repubblica, via della Constituente, via Jacini, viale della Resistenza “Largo 2 Giugno” rest area (it will not reach the Chamber of Commerce).
Marisabella Shuttle Service
from 2.30 am to 11.45 pm (last departure), and in any case until the end of the needs, a shuttle service will be activated which will connect between the Marisabella bend and the Customs gate and will cross the internal area of the Port Authority.
The “AB” shuttle will be cancelled.
All existing stops along the aforementioned route variations will be made. Temporary stops will be established in:
- via Cognetti on the Petruzzelli theater side
- via Carulli in front of number 94
- via Di Vagno sides Santarella institute
- Corso Trieste loop outside the Pane e Pomodoro rest area
- via Brigata Regina corner of Corso Vittorio Veneto
- via Dalmazia via Dalmazia (near numbers 67 and 127)
- Piazza Gramsci (Santarella Institute).
Rest areas
- “Pane e Pomodoro” (Corso Trieste – sea side and land side)
- “Largo 2 Giugno” (Viale Della Resistenza)
- “Vittorio Veneto” (sea side and land side).
The rest areas will be active from 5 am to 1 am, and in any case until the end of the needs. The service will be available with the usual park & ride formula: €1 + €0.30 for each passenger transported by the vehicle left parked other than the driver.
Once the availability of parking spaces in the “Vittorio Veneto-land side” parking area is exhausted, the parking areas via Verdi, near the municipal swimming pools, will be activated.
