Castellammare – Young people challenging for more sustainable schools

Nudgethon event on May 16th at the Hotel dei Congressi.

A challenge to the latest idea to make your school a sustainable place that respects the environment as much as possible.
On May 16th, from 10am to 5pm, around a hundred boys and girls who attend the high schools of Castellammare di Stabia, Scafati and Meta, will meet at the conference hotel in Viale delle Puglie, to try their hand at the competition. Finally, a special jury will decide the most convincing proposal, rewarding the winning idea with a small financial contribution to be able to create and put into practice the sustainability tools.

“This is the final event of the “ORA! Organise, Reflect, Act”, and in the same period it will take place in all 7 territories involved in the activities, namely Verona, Bologna, Gorizia, Turin, Oristano, Naples/Salerno and Trento”, explains Gianluigi Donnarumma of Comunità Promozione Sviluppo, which is partner of the project, co-financed by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS). “During the project we work with 2,800 girls and boys between 14 and 19 years old and 350 teachers from 35 high schools to encourage and promote the education of young people on the topic of climate change, and the rooting of environmental sensitivity in

their value system, stimulating a change of direction in their behaviour. The moment of the so-called Nudgethon, i.e. a competition that prods and stimulates people to carry out actions without imposing them, but on the contrary creating the right conditions for people themselves to carry them out, represents the last piece of the dense program of activities carried out”.

“Ma-Nudge climate change” is the title chosen for the event by the same young people who participated in the experiences in class and in the groups involved, the so-called changemakers, now ready for the latest challenge.
“The students involved, after having studied the topic of climate change in depth, will try to design interventions, called “nudges”, in response to the problems that emerged during the training courses in which the schools participated.”, highlights Donnarumma. “In this way they will be the true and indisputable protagonists of change and promoters of strengthening schools’ sustainability programmes”.

The logic is glocal (global thinking, local action) and was activated by a partnership with entities operating in the various Italian provinces and technical partners who will operate across the 7 intervention territories.
