With the “election day” on Saturday 8 June and Sunday 9 June 2024 we vote for the European Elections and for the Administrative Elections, which concern the renewal of the mayor and municipal councils of 3,706 Italian municipalities, including Cesena and others 8 municipalities in the area (Savignano, Bagno di Romagna, Borghi, Montiano, Gambettola, San Mauro Pascoli, Mercato Saraceno, Roncofreddo). Voting takes place on Saturday 8 June from 2pm to 10pm and on Sunday 9 June from 7am to 11pm.

As far as the European elections are concerned, the vote is national. Over 350 million citizens of the European Union are called to vote. Cesena and its district fall, like all of Emilia-Romagna, in the North-East constituency, which elects 15 MEPs out of the 76 belonging to Italy. The voting system is proportional, with a threshold of 4%, below which the list does not enter the European Parliament.

As regards municipal elections, voting is limited only to the municipalities that renew their municipal administrations, i.e. Cesena and 8 other municipalities in the district (only Cesenatico, Gatteo, Sarsina, Verghereto, Longiano and Sogliano do not vote). The voting system differs between large municipalities (above 15 thousand inhabitants), where a second round of voting is also foreseen if none of the candidates has reached an absolute majority (50% + 1 of the votes), and small municipalities (under 15 thousand inhabitants).

For the city of Cesena the challenge is amongoutgoing mayor Enzo Lattucasupported by a centre-left coalition; Marco Casalisupported by a center-right coalition and Marco Giangrandi, candidate for mayor for the civic hub that includes Cesena Sia Noi, Cambiamo and Italia Viva. Lattuca sees the support of a very broad coalition that includes the Pd, Cesena 2024, Civica Popolare, Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra, Fondamenta, Psi and Possibile, Pacto per Cesena formed by Pri and Azione and also the 5 Star Movement. Casali is supported by the three centre-right parties, Fratelli d’Italia, Lega and Forza Italia and by the civic list Insieme.
