To comment on the unprecedented achievement of first place in Serie B achieved by Parma, in the latest episode of PARMATALK, the yellow-blue legend Fausto Pizzi spoke who, as a footballer, was the protagonist of the first historic promotion to Serie A way back in 1989/1990.
This Monday’s super guest, live during the 29th seasonal episode of the SportParma webshow dedicated to the Crusaders, first of all underlined the beautiful post-match party, which recalled the previous one of his time: «I remember well the party in the square for our promotion and also the one held at the stadium. But the crowd yesterday (Sunday, ed.) was also incredible. The people of Parma love their team, they are always very attached: it was nice to see a lot of young people in Piazza, there is a generational change of fans and this is nice. The following that the team continues to have is of a high level. Now there are the children of those who supported us a few years ago”. The passion and support of the Parma fans has returned to the evolutions of the time, unlike football which has changed habits and customs: «Now the people of Parma can live less than the players – continued Pizzi –, he only sees them on Sundays and in a few lucky events: we had more contact with the city, we did open training sessions. People knew if we were nice, unpleasant, cute or “grumpy”, they had the opportunity to get to know us better: it’s a shame that today’s football doesn’t allow players to live with emotions and not have contact between people and their team”.
On the conquest of the cadet championship by Delprato and his associates, the former coach and manager in charge of the yellow-blue youth teams expressed himself as follows: «The first place is absolutely deserved: the team has always been in the lead since the start of the championship and has continued to play great football. Except for some sporadic half time here and there, he has always had a very high continuity of performance, the group has worked very well and has always been available: the example is Hernani, on Sunday he went from attacking midfielder to central defender. It takes a high-level mental attitude: Parma is made up of extraordinary guys, first place is more than deserved”.
Furthermore, great merit must be attributed to Mr. Pecchia, and also to his former teammate: «I met him as a player, we played together in Naples: he was a Peperino, he had quicksilver on him, he scored 3-4 goals a year. An intelligent boy, he played in Serie A, but spent a lot of time behind his books: enormous human potential. When I did the Masters course in Coverciano I went to see Benitez: Rafa gave the conference, while Fabio led the training. He is a very prepared boy. His knowledge and his game have evolved over the years, this year he put his path to good use. It seems to me that this is what he had the most impact on: he took on a team that had been disappointing for two years in Serie B, with many foreigners, and managed to involve everyone and make Parma a team in every sense of the word.” he commented.
