SAN VITO AL TAGLIAMENTO – They disappeared during the night from the armored room where they had been placed. The Carabinieri of San Vito are trying to understand who could have done it, where the management of the San Vito hospital has reported the theft of two probes for use with the ultrasound machine which is found in Obstetrics department and is used to perform ultrasound scans on women who are expecting a baby. Damage estimated at 20 to 25 thousand euros.
ON COMMISSION
It is difficult to believe that a theft of that type occurred by chance. Ultrasound probesas well as other medical supplies, they have value only if they are used for the purposes for which they were created. It cannot be ruled out, therefore, that whoever entered the obstetrics department of San Vito did so because he knew well what to take away and how much the stolen goods could be worth. Given the fact that it would have been too complicated to steal the entire ultrasound machine which is however a large piece of equipment, the probes are made of flexible material and therefore can be easily hidden on one’s body. It is therefore easy to understand that the theft was done on commissionMoreover, similar thefts have also been carried out in other hospitals in the region and ultrasound probes or other similar equipment are almost always stolen and each time the economic and operational damage is decidedly high.
HOW DID IT HAPPEN
It’s another mystery that the San Vito police will have to try to uncover. The access door to the safe room was not forced, a sign that whoever entered did so using a badge. The fact remains that many people have the badge: doctors, nurses, health workers and cleaners. This means that it will not be easy to trace whoever, taking advantage of the fact that the department is empty at night, entered and stole the two probes. It cannot be ruled out that a badge may also have been secretly stolen from someone who has it in order to enter and steal. The electronic key, then, could have been put back in its place. Second hypothesis, more serious and worrying, that there is someone inside the hospital who acted as a basis, encouraging entry into the room where the probes were kept.
THE PRIMARY
«It was a very bad surprise – said the head physician, Roberta Pinzano – also because it involves very expensive medical material. Fortunately, the company immediately put us in a position to be able to work by giving us two more probes with which we managed to carry out all the services that were scheduled and I can say that there have not been, nor will there be, problems on this front. We have reported the theft to the police who are already working.”
