The story landed in the courtroom and in front of the preliminary hearing judge, the man (who is still in prison) read a letter to apologize to all the people involved in this ugly affair: “I am sorry”. In all, a short handwritten page in which he poured all the pain and shame for the harm caused not only to the victim, but also to his parents and the family for whom he had worked for twelve years and who hosted him in their house on the hill .
Because it is precisely within those walls that the episodes contested in the indictment by the prosecutor would have occurred Barbara Badellino. The magistrate, during the indictment, underlined the seriousness of the actions committed by the 42-year-old, some of which were also confirmed by some videos extrapolated from the residence’s surveillance cameras. And at the end of the discussion he asked that the “tate” be punished a 4 year prison sentence (taking into account that the abbreviated procedure is being used): according to the prosecutor, the accused must be recognized as having generic mitigating circumstances, but it is not possible to reclassify the crime as episodes of “slight entity”.
The facts date back to the period between February and September 2022. The 42-year-old was working for ten years for a wealthy Turin family and was considered the «perfect daddy»: speaks five languages, is polite and helpful with children. In short, a person in whom everyone had full trust.
According to the accusations, he took advantage of the fragility of a little girl, a schoolmate of the girl he had looked after since birth. The two teenagers often spent the afternoon together and the accused looked after them both. After the summer, however, the 11-year-old no longer wanted to go to her friend’s house, trying in every way to avoid the babysitter. She then confided in some classmates who encouraged her to turn to the teachers.
Courageously, the girl filed a complaint. And at that point he ran away, seeking refuge in Colombia. «I was scared and I didn’t know where to go – explained the accused in the letter -, the family who was hosting me no longer wanted me and I was desperate. Then, however, I realized that I couldn’t carry the weight of what I had done with me for my whole life and I returned to Italy: I wanted to face my responsibilities, aware that I would end up in prison.” The man has admitted most of the behaviors he is accused of, but he strongly denies only one circumstance: having touched the little girl in her private parts. «I’m sorry, I apologize to everyone. I ask forgiveness from God and society”, he reiterated several times in those few lines read with tears in his eyes.
