TERAMO. Disputed, exploited, damaged by adults who are not always able to be parents. The judicial news tells another story of minors who need to be protected.
The starting point is the complaint of a woman from Teramo who accuses her partner of beatings and psychological violence which also occurred in front of her two young children. Five days later she withdraws the complaint and retracts her accusations, specifying that both she and her spouse are very jealous and that is why they often argue. But this time she excludes violent attitudes on the part of the man. The Teramo prosecutor’s office reports the case to the minors’ office and the juvenile court suspends parental responsibility for both parents. To the father, accused of mistreatment in the presence of his young children; to the mother deemed unreliable in protecting minors. The little ones remain with their mother but are entrusted to the social services of the municipality of residence and a guardian has been appointed for them. Not only. The man was ordered to be removed from the family home with a ban on going near the places frequented by his wife and children, starting from schools and ending with his grandparents’ homes. This is what the judge writes in the provision Cecilia Angrisano, president of the juvenile court of L’Aquila: «The minors appear to be exposed either to the man’s aggressive conduct, carried out with great frequency and in such a way as to certainly frighten the children, or to the moody and verbal outbursts of both parents who inappropriately involve them in scenes of jealousy and decisions that are up to adults alone. In both cases, one must strongly doubt the ability of both parents to exercise their role correctly and the minors certainly experience a highly prejudicial condition.”
Because the gaze of a child is never indifferent to what happens between the parents. Especially when they witness mistreatment of any nature. For psychologists it is “assisted violence”, for the penal code an aggravating circumstance. In the first complaint, the one later withdrawn, the woman had accused the man of using cocaine, of having beaten her several times, of having insulted her in front of her children’s school, of having attacked her while she was in the car with one of her children and of having chased her while she was in the car with the children. She added that she too had been attacked in front of her house where she had gone to live with her children after leaving her partner. She recanted accusations five days later.
