The screening, organized in collaboration with Spi Cgil Ferrarawill be held in the presence of the two protagonists of the film in the Sala Estense: Vanni and Natalia; will moderate the meeting Sofia GualandiPhD student in European Union Law and National Law at the University of Ferrara.

CareSeekers – looking for care was born following the Sindrome Italia project, around which Tiziana Francesca Vaccaro created the theater show of the same name and the graphic novel, together with the illustrator and cartoonist Elena Mistrello. The term Italy Syndrome defines that “complex of disabling mental illnesses, with persecutory ideation, mistreatment and obsessions attributable to care work activities carried out in Italy”, a phenomenon today more commonly recognized as “caregiver’s disease”. The project, in both the theater and comic versions, had different audiences and critics, receiving national awards and recognition. The great interest, also on the part of public opinion, which developed around certain stories and themes that had previously gone unnoticed, pushed Tiziana to look for other artistic languages to broaden her gaze and still tell stories of work and care. The previous collaboration with the director Teresa Sala and the harmony between them led the two authors to imagine an entire documentary film on the “cure”.

The film tells the story of Vanni and Natalia, two elderly people who acted as caregivers for their mothers and now wonder about their advancing old age and who will take care of them. Vasilica is a forty-five-year-old Romanian woman who is a 24-hour caregiver for Miranda, a lady in her nineties with senile dementia; she left for Italy about 15 years ago, leaving her life and her children still children, and now she no longer knows what her place in the world is.

In the Villa Antonietta retirement home, the life of the workers, almost all young and foreign girls like Marienne, and that of the residents, ladies of the well-to-do Milan, takes place between tiring getting up and going to bed, baby food and diapers, smiles and conflicts. In a small village in Sardinia, Sandra and her friends decided to try to live their old age together in a community form, with the desire to find an alternative treatment path. Four stories, four tales of care that meet in a surreal car journey across the Po Valley. In each chapter one of the protagonists joins the colorful group in search of an answer to the big question that animates the entire story: “what cure is (a) due to us?” Between stops and hitchhiking, crossroads and dead ends, the roads become confused and the destination remains a mirage. All that remains is to continue the journey.

The doors of the Sala Estense will open to the public from 4.30pm, the start of the event is scheduled for 5pm. The cost of the ticket is one and equal to €5, it will be possible to purchase on site, but also in advance online (+1 € ddp) via BoxerTicket.
