Slashed tires, broken windows, death threats and insults. It’s been two years since Marco Manfrinati he persecuted his ex-wife and her family. Until the episode of Monday 6 May, when around 12.30 the 41-year-old attacked the woman with a volley of punches and stabs, killing her father who had intervened to protect her.
The man, a former lawyer in Varese now arrested on suspicion of murder, had already been reported several times by his ex-partner and her mother, and he had been subjected to a no-approach measure. The Varese Prosecutor’s Office had asked for it a year ago the arrest. But the request was not accepted, and a biased psychiatric consultation had even established that Manfrinati was ultimately a good father, a person “integrated into society” and therefore not dangerous. “A week after this assessment Manfrinati threatened my daughter with death with a hammer”, the words of the former mother-in-law. “And now we are here to choose the coffin for my husbandwhile my daughter is in hospital.”
But not only. Another consultation had ruled that the 41-year-old could no longer see his three year old son until the proceedings against him against his ex-wife and her family had been resolved. According to the investigators, this would have been what triggered the crime spring of hatred. And above all of the homicidal fury.

“It was established that my client could see his sonin the presence of the paternal grandparents, every two weeks”, explained Manfrinati’s lawyer, Fabrizio Busignani. “There was no way of being able to carry out these meetings. Our appeals were rejected by the ordinary court and by the Review despite what is established by the European law on fathers’ rights”.
The police, in the meantime, are trying to establish what the 41-year-old’s moves were in the days preceding the ambush: he stalked the ex-wife and her family members, waiting for the best moment to take action?
