on average thirty new trees are planted per day

Every day the municipality of Brescia plants on average 27 new forest plants and 10 shrubs, in addition to those that arise on roads and urban parks. This since when the Lodge has achieved an acceleration never seen before and through its Urban Green sector is engaged in an ambitious multi-year tree plan: since March 2023, 9,860 forest plants and 4,006 shrubs have been planted.

Compared to the previous tree balance (2018-2023) the leap forward was notable: more was achieved in the last 14 months than in all the previous five years, when the balance (net of eradication) was 8,592 new trees in the city . Furthermore, 1,168 new plants have been planted along the avenues and in urban parks since March 2023, compared to 585 fellings made necessary due to old age.cases of danger or deaths, thus also remedying the mistakes of the past «when over the years some plants compromised the underground services» recalls the councilor for ecological transition and the environment of the Municipality Camilla Bianchi, explaining the reasons that often lead to choosing to change species or move them to other areas.

The balance for the trees along the streets corresponds to 583 new plants, which bring the total in these areas to 19,478 to which must be added another 42,333 already present in the city parks and another hundred thousand that the Municipality estimates are present today in the municipal forests of the various urban and extra-urban areas. The safeguard and implementation of city greenery, but above all the protection of biodiversity, also involves another practice which has been tested for some months now and which has caused discussion in other cities: the reduced mowing of grass which currently, as regards urban parks, concerns the 1000 m2 of Lussignoli, where the grass is cut once a year and constantly monitored.

In peri-urban parks, however, the experiment with reduced mowing is underway in the Cave park. Here the meadows are left uncultivated upon express indication of the Scientific Committee of the Cave Park and in these areas no events are authorized and cutting is carried out once/twice a year. Tall grass to preserve biodiversity, but always with extreme attention to any contraindications, such as the proliferation of insects or mosquitoes.
