LIFE Safe for Vultures, an international conference on the protection of wild fauna in Sassari: on 13 May experts and operators will meet, the objective is the enactment of a regional law in Sardinia

As part of the activities carried out for the long-term survival and well-being of the griffon vulture in Sardinia – which are conducted through the LIFE Safe for Vultures project of which the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Sassari is the leader and of which they are partners the Forestas Agency, the Forestry and Environmental Surveillance Corps of the Sardinia Region, E-Distribuzione and the Vulture Conservation Foundation – the international conference entitled Protection of wild fauna and regulatory framework: towards a regional law in Sardinia.

It will be an opportunity to study and update on the phenomenon of crimes related to the poisoning of wildlife in Sardinia. The objective is to discuss with professionals and to promote the commitment of national and regional authorities to strengthen the tools to combat crimes against wildlife.

Through the intervention of national and international experts, we will discuss the rules that govern a constantly evolving area of ​​criminal law, the most advanced investigation methods and the need to involve public opinion in combating a much more widespread and much more harmful to ecosystems and biodiversity than is perceived, first of all encouraging greater awareness among information operators.

The appointment is for May 13th at 4 pm in the council room of the Department of Veterinary Medicine of Sassari, in via Vienna 2. The meeting will be opened by Orlando Paciello, professor at the Federico II University of Naples, with a speech dedicated to ” Legal protection of wildlife and operational tools to combat crimes against animals”. Jovan Andevski of the Vulture Conservation Foundation will talk about “Judicial procedure, the Spanish experience”, while “The phenomenon of poisoning of wildlife, relevant episodes in Sardinia” will be the topic addressed by Giovanni Tesei and Umberto Graziano of the Forestry and Surveillance Corps Environment of the Sardinia Region.

This will be followed by the report by Davide Pintus of the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Sardinia on “Cases of poisonings in Sardinia: dedicated portal”. Maria Paola Asara, deputy public prosecutor of the Sassari Public Prosecutor’s Office, will talk specifically about “Judicial experience in Sardinia, the case of Nulvi”. It will again be up to Tesei and Graziano to conclude the session of scheduled interventions to talk about “Counteracting the illegal use of poisons: possible regional regulatory discipline”. A discussion open to participants’ contributions will follow.

The event is accredited by the Order of Journalists of Sardinia and by the Bar Association of Sassari as part of mandatory training activities.
