The play-offs yes, but against whom?

Combinations and combinations to understand who will challenge the Giallorossi in the single match on May 18th

Saturday 18 May at 8.30 pm stadium “Nicola Ceravolo”. To date it is the only certainty of Catanzaroand that’s no small thing, as far as the upcoming promotion playoffs are concerned, which will begin immediately with the last match of the Serie B regular season.

A specific press release from Lega B yesterday opened up the scenarios on the dates and times of the promotion play-offs which will lead to the final act on 2 June. For Catanzaro there are the possible contenders to face Sampdoria, Brescia and Palermo. From these three will emerge the opponent that Catanzaro will face at home, being able to count on two results out of three, thanks to the fifth position achieved in the standings during this season.

To date the team of Vivarini should face the “twins” of Brescia which however will have a hard life Bari in the last round of the championship, with the Apulians in need of three vital points for the fight for survival.

There Sampdoria will visit the Catanzaro in the last round and currently occupies the seventh position in the ranking.

Then there’s the Palermo who is sixth at the moment and who will travel in the home of South Tyrol who no longer has anything to ask of his season.

Everything is still fully in the balance and to be decided. What is certain is that every opponent has their own unknowns and their degree of difficulty and in the playoffs nothing is taken for granted. Against the aforementioned teams in the championship the balance reigned in terms of results and statistics but as we know in these matches the story is completely different. The hope is that this story will once again bear the most beautiful name… Catanzaro!

It starts like this:

5 Catanzaro 60 points

6 Palermo 53 points

7 Sampdoria 52 points

8 Brescia 51 points

The possible combinations for Catanzaro in the playoffs:

Catanzaro – Palermo if…
Palermo must lose their last match while Sampdoria and Brescia gain enough points to overcome it. In practice, if Palermo loses and both Sampdoria and Brescia obtain better results (at least a win for Brescia and a draw for Sampdoria), Palermo will slip to eighth place and face Catanzaro.

Catanzaro – Brescia if…
Brescia remains in eighth place not improving its current score or doing better than Palermo, but doing less than Sampdoria, allowing the latter to advance beyond Brescia in the standings.

Catanzaro – Sampdoria if…
Sampdoria loses its match while Brescia gets more than one point, relegating Sampdoria to eighth place. In this scenario, with Catanzaro already secured in fifth place, they would meet Sampdoria as eighth in the playoffs.
