MESSINA – Volleyball events continue in Messina and on Saturday 11 May at PalaRescifina, home of the city’s first team Akademia in the women’s Serie A2, the finals of the regional championship for the S3 volleyball category will be played. The event was presented this morning at Palazzo Zanca by the councilor for sports policies Massimo Finocchiaro together with the provincial president of Fipav Alessandro Zurro and the school and promotion sector delegate Sabrina Montalbano. Finocchiaro was keen to point out that the event should have taken place in another location: “We would have liked to inaugurate Villa Dante like this but due to delays we moved everything to the Pala Rescifina”. The great champion and historic voice of Italian volleyball on TV for some years, Andrea Lucchetta, will be present as guest of honor on Saturday.
The sporting event “S3 regional volleyball trophy” is sponsored by the Municipality of Messina and is organized by the Fipav Sicilia Committee, together with the territorial one of Messina. It will take place on Saturday 11 May at the PalaRescifina in Messina. “Our objective – declared councilor Finocchiaro – is to bring young people closer to the world of sport and at the same time make Messina an increasingly attractive and tourist city. The finals of the S3 regional volleyball championship respond to this dual purpose. Hosting this event will be PalaRescifina, the jewel in the crown of our facilities, but volleyball will also find space in our squares in the future. It is a rapidly growing sport as demonstrated in recent years by the results of the Akademia, which is aiming for a leading role also in the next season”.
The president of Fipav Messina Zurro, in thanking the municipal administration for the effective collaboration, explained that “the territorial finalists of each province will participate in the regional final on Saturday and the male and female winners will go to the national finals. The great champion Andrea Lucchetta will be our welcome guest in Messina.” Delegate Montalbano invited “citizens, and in particular young people, to participate in Saturday’s event, an example of aggregation and healthy competition”.
