Disappointed? Bitter? Or accustomed to the surprises of the world of football? What is the mood of Gianni Lipari, fresh winner of the Prima championship with a miracle Ornavassese – which had never been in Promotion – and now now former coach of the blacks? The decision was made shortly before the last match, but it had been in the air for a while.

”Everyone made their own decisions and that’s how it went! I’d say I’m a bit surprised after a positive year. But I’m not the only one who’s surprised and I’m sorry for this for the guys I thank. Lipari says he won’t be on the Ornavassese bench next year. And when he talks about surprise he is referring to many players who expressed their regret to the Domodossola coach.
The divorce was sudden and explosive even before the celebrations on the pitch and in the village ended. The news that bounced immediately afterwards about the possible divorce is not a bolt from the blue for Gianni Lipari.
”I understood that something was wrong when, given how the championship was going, in the last month no one spoke to me about plans for next year” says Lipari.
Who undoubtedly has the merit – with the entire squad – of having led to victory a team that started out to conquer the play-off zone and then became the queen of the championship.
”There were at least six, seven stronger teamsi – admits Lipari – but we showed that we could win. We finished with the second best defense in all of Piedmont and without ever suffering a red card on the pitch”.
Meanwhile, fate decided that the victorious championship for the Ornavassese of Lipari would end in Varzo, on the Divedrino field where Gianni Lipari led the granata team of president Livio Spertino for years. A case that certainly did not go unnoticed.
Now Lipari is looking around for another adventure. Also to respond to those who, recklessly, ”invited’ him to quit the bench after this success. Of course, those who know his passion for football know that this won’t be the case…
”It’s true: I never thought about quitting!” he admits.
