The real income of families per inhabitant in OECD countries grew by 0.5% in the fourth quarter of 2023, after a decline of 0.2% in the third quarter: this is what the OECD itself states, specifying that out of the 19 countries for which the data are available, 11 recorded an increase, 6 a decrease (including Italy) and two remained stable.
Among the G7 economies, the Paris-based international organization specifies, real family income has grown in the United Kingdom, France and the United States. In the UK, the figure grew by 0.5% in the fourth quarter of last year. This increase, the OECD points out, is mainly due to the increase in social benefits. France and the United States also recorded an increase in the fourth quarter (0.7% and 0.4% respectively), following a contraction in the previous quarter. For Canada, however, a decrease was reported (-0.7%). Albeit more slightly, family income per inhabitant also fell in Italy (-0.4%), in the fourth quarter of 2023 while in Germany it remained stable.
