The note through which President Canonico revealed his disengagement, announcing that he wanted to entrust his shares of Foggia to the mayor and – implicitly – the interruption of the negotiations with the American fund for the sale of the club, shook Palazzo di Città, as well as the entire square. The Municipality, in fact, expected to speak with the president, but only to define the terms of the agreement for the management of the Zaccheria stadium.

The patron’s about-face now makes the stadium issue secondary, because there is a future to be guaranteed for the Rossoneri club, which cannot afford to disappear from the geography of professional football again for the third time in just over ten years. With the failed transfer and the owner’s decision to no longer want to lead the club, there is a risk.

For this reason, the Administration immediately formally requested a meeting with Canonico. There are many aspects to clarify, from the motivations to the current state of health of the company.

“Know that we will not waste a moment without working for Foggia football. We are sportsmen and we understand the popular need to express themselves even in stadiums, we guarantee maximum commitment. We will explore all entrepreneurial and legal horizons also to understand the moves to make”the mayor Maria Aida Episcopo declared to FoggiaToday.

Times are tight, also because registration must be completed by June 4th (with the related payments of emoluments and Irpef withholdings to members and employees): “We know there’s this hard deadline, we’re running like crazy.”

However, there is one aspect of Canonico’s statement that left people perplexed and not very popular, namely the willingness to sell the shares with the exception of those entrepreneurs who last year presented an offer that he considered offensive. The mayor does not comment on the specific case, but immediately makes things clear: “We are talking about it, I have to get it from the direct source. However, I am a mayor and I have to work on the formal documents. It’s obvious that if I take over completely from a management that preceded me, I don’t appreciate that there are conditions.”
