Drug trafficking, 38 arrests

This morning, Tuesday 7 May 2024, the Financiers of the Provincial Command of Trento, supported by specialized personnel from various units of the Corps throughout the national territory, executed an order issued by the GIP of the Court of Trento, at the request of the local DDA, which ordered the application of the precautionary custody of 38 individualsof which 27 destined for prison and 11 subjected to the obligation to stay. At the same time the seizure of assets and financial resources worth more than 10 million euros.

The operation, conducted with the coordination of the GICO of the Economic-Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Trento, involved several Italian provinces including Trento, Turin, Milan, Bergamo, Brescia, Bolzano, Verona, Pavia, Cremona and Livorno.

The investigations, which began in December 2021, led to the involvement of 38 individuals, mainly foreigners (Albanians, Tunisians, Moroccans and Portuguese), accused of being involved in two complex criminal associations dedicated to drug trafficking (cocaine, hashish, marijuana and heroin), coming from other Italian regions and destined almost entirely for the Trentino area.

The modus operandi

Investigations revealed that the two organizations, prior agreements between compatriots living in other regions, they sent the narcotic substance to the Trentino area through couriers who used specially modified cars equipped with ingenious double bottoms.

Subsequently, the suspects operating in the provincial territory, in total 26 with various roles and all affected by arrest measures, proceeded, inside some rented apartments, cutting and packaging drugs, also using paprika to disguise the smell. The doses thus composed came then hidden (buried) along the banks of rivers or within a public park for subsequent transfer to final consumers.

During the investigations were carried out numerous arrests in flagrante delicto (19 people) and seized over 49 kilos of hashish, 20 kilos of cocaine, over 5 kilos of heroin, and cash for more 111 thousand euros as well as drug packaging material.

Profit of 10 million euros

Furthermore, it has been established a significant illicit profit deriving from the sale of drugs, quantified at over 10 million euros. At the disposal of the Judicial Authority, these illicit profits were subjected to preventive seizure.

The operation, which involved around 100 soldiers from the Guardia di Finanza, testifies to the effectiveness of the investigative synergies and the strong commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and other crimes, guaranteeing the safety of citizens and respect for the rule of law.
