Greater protection for urban cyclists and the most vulnerable road users. These are the inspiring principles that led to a new mobility system resulting from the work carried out by Fiab Gela and the Municipality’s technicians. «Finally the main street – – writes Simone Morgana, president of Fiab – becomes an urban cycle road. Corso Vittorio Emanuele will also have a two-way cycle path. We are talking about a new vision of mobility, which exploits the rules of the highway code to promote better and safer circulation of bicycles. An urban cycle road is a road where there is no path, but bicycles and cars have the same rights, indeed, bikes have greater protection.”

«A limit of 20 kilometers per hour is imposed on cars and bicycles have the right of way, without having the obligation to keep to the right. An important objective that pushes towards a culture in which the most sustainable means are protected. The two-way cycle path, however, will allow bicycles only to travel along Corso Vittorio Emanuele towards the East (Refinery) up to Via Marconi. Another important achievement, because it will allow those who use bikes to travel on a daily basis to follow a linear and flat route, which is much easier. Starting to change things, respecting all those who move on the street, is fundamental. We are really satisfied with this small step, aware that there is still a long way to go.”
