To the Curator of the Exhibition Sylvia Irrazabal we asked:
How was the “Alma Latina” exhibition born?
“The encounter with the creative force and universal message of Juan Carlos Ñañake could not leave me indifferent. Thus the “ALMA LATINA” exhibition curated by me is the encounter with pictorial creations that know how to express and communicate universal feelings and tensions created by the Master on the basis of metaphysical theories, full of symbolism, of ancestral, mythological colors of his country. From the different chapters and phases of the evolution of Andean culture, from the different cultures that have existed and that still survive, Ñañake knows how to draw messages and feelings that unite all humanity beyond every latitude with a creative poetic vein that immortalizes the uniqueness of peoples and cultures. His cool color palette contrasted by vibrant color accents provides balance to his painting with dynamic lines, complemented by energetic brush strokes, which at times also remind us of the expressionist painting of early twentieth century Europe in a futurist vision”.

What are the technical characteristics of Juan Carlos Ñañake?
“The symbolic and chromatic figurative messages of Juan Carlos come to us with strong visual impacts that capture us for the particular shape of the lights and shadows, for the way in which the colors of the earth are arranged and for the feeling that enlivens his world . Ñañake’s painting is strong and powerful, where various color planes construct the geography of the images. It is not a flat and rigid painting, it has its own vibration, an internal rhythm marked by the initial drawings that construct all his images and which are articulated with each other, obtaining sets of interesting plasticity. Strong and central is his message onfeminine enigma: an idealized, hieratic, emancipated woman, protagonist of modernity and at the same time, an archetypal woman. A world of archetypes where the female figure reigns supreme and represents a constant motif in his universal artistic creations as in this “ALMA LATINA” exhibition in which he offers us a set of works where the woman is the main protagonist, who feeds on myths and legends, of profound stories in a fusion between the ancestral pre-Columbian and the contemporary social”.

Who is Juan Carlos Nanake in the Latin artistic panorama?
“Born in 1971 in Peru, in Chiclayo, Juan Carlos Ñañake has over 50 individual painting exhibitions and more than 180 collective exhibitions to his credit. Contemplating the Master’s work is entering into the birth of the Aboriginal epiphany, it is accessing a ritual of essential images which are the faces of a culture that is transformed on the canvas. A vision that follows the journeys of a soul, that deciphers and immerses itself in the enigma of this time towards the visual memory of a people that resists in its values and riches, in this fiery aesthetic universe, that of the interior meanders of an artist with a capital A. His works can be found in museums and private collections around the world. In Peru as in Argentina, Spain, Romania, Germany, United States of America, Japan, Italy, Bolivia, Brazil, Panama, Canada, England, Ecuador, Colombia. He is the creator and executor of large murals such as the one in Concrete Art of 2000 m2 on Paseo Yortuque in Chiclayo”.

Who is this exhibition aimed at?
“Ñañake is one of the most notable cases of a painting of great and recognized depth that renews ancestral sources and archetypes to welcome the primitive and the terrigenous as a lasting essence of contemporaneity in a symbolic dimension. The ALMA LATINA exhibition is aimed at those who love the predominance of great contrasts and journeys into the depths of origins. Enthusiasts or not, they will be enraptured by the grandeur and depth of a great Master who interprets the ancient and atavistic world in a propulsive aesthetic perspective that goes from ancient to contemporary. And in these terms a work by the Master cannot be missing from the collection of connoisseurs and aficionados”.
