A near tragedy yesterday morning for a Sunday flight trip to Nettuno which ended in a daring way. A couple – he is 63, she is 64 – wanted to take a ride on a glider in Nettuno, but during the taxiing phase, before take-off, the aircraft went off the runway.
The aircraft ended up in a ditch, overturned and then collided with the fence of a house in via Rocca di Mezzo.
After the impact the man lost consciousness. He later recovered but was quickly transported by air ambulance to the San Camillo hospital in Rome where he is hospitalized under code red.
The wife suffered grazes on her legs and light wounds. She was admitted to Anzio hospital, also in code red. Neither of them was in danger of their lives.
Intervening on site, together with the 118 emergency vehicles, were the police from the Anzio – Nettuno and Velletri police stations and the Scientific Police. The investigation aims to establish what actually happened, whether a human error or a mechanical failure of the glider.
Accidents with this type of vehicle are not uncommon.
