FLORENCE – There are 60 events that the Tuscany Region brings to the 36th edition of the Turin International Book Fair, from Thursday 9 to Monday 13 May 2024. The rich program includes presentations, debates, meetings, organized in collaboration with around thirty Tuscan publishers , the Vieusseux Scientific Literary Cabinet, the four regional Unipress and Toscanalibri.

Many events will take place, most of which will take place at the stand of the Tuscany Region, which this year has tripled the space, reaching 150 square metres.

Thursday 9 Mayfrom 3 pm, the event dedicated to the ‘Tuscan literary reviews, festivals and prizes’ with the introduction of the president of the Culture Commission of the Regional Council, in which the project of the ‘Young Poets Award von Rezzori’, the ‘Literary Review’ will be presented LeggerMente’ in Livorno, the ‘Pisa Book Festival’ and the ‘La città sul Ponte’ fiction prize in Florence.

Friday 10 May at 10.30 the Welfare councilor will illustrate the activity of the Region’s Braille printing press, the only public one in Italy. On the same day, at 12.30 pm, the Councilor for Education and Equal Opportunities will discuss the book ‘Like butterflies in the spider’s web: stories of ordinary digital violence against women’, by Laura Ghiglione and Vanessa Isoppo, while at 3.30 pm the philologist and literary critic Carlo Ossola will present the volume ‘It will be useful to remember. Meminisse iuvabit’.

Saturday 11 May at 1pm the publications of Unipress of Florence and Siena ‘Ideas of work and leisure for civilization’ (by various authors) and ‘With absolute sincerity. The editorial work of Natalia Ginzburg (1943-1952)’ by Giulia Bassi.

Again on Saturday at 3.30 pm, as part of the regional project ‘The Tuscany of women’, ‘Animae – Loci. Literary and artistic itinerary in search of the places of the soul. The head of the Cabinet of the Regional Council and creator of ‘The Tuscany of women’ will introduce. Moderated by Stefania Costa, president of the cultural association ‘La Nottola di Minerva’ and curator of ‘Animae Loci’. The authors speak: Veronica Galletta, Pelleossa, (minimumfax); Alessandra Minello and Tommaso Nannicini, Equal Parents. Time, work, freedom, (Feltrinelli); Denata Ndreca, Flowers of the Balkans, Besa publishing house; Lorenza Pieri, I wanted a bigger kingdom. Sunday 12 May at 11am, in the Sala Oro, it will be the turn of the meeting with Aldo Cazzullo ‘Giacomo Matteotti – Portrait for Images’, moderated by Maurizio Degl’Innocenti. The event is organized by the Council, the Regional Council and the University of Pisa as part of the initiatives of the National Committee for the celebrations of the centenary of the death of Giacomo Matteotti.

Two presentations organized by the Gabinetto Vieusseux are scheduled for Sunday afternoon again: at 5pm that of the new issues of the ‘Vieusseux Anthology’; at 5.30 pm that of the exhibition ‘The keys of poetry. Writers at the typewriter’, which will be attended by Riccardo Nencini and Michele Rossi, respectively president and director of the Gabinetto Vieusseux.

Among the regional initiatives, the presentation of the publications of the Assembly Editions ‘The heart of Tuscany: the Oriana Fallaci fund of the Regional Council of Tuscany’, which will be held on Saturday 11 May at 11.30, and ‘Who saves a life, in memory of Giusti Toscani’, by Alfredo De Girolamo which will be held on Sunday 12 May at 7pm.

Monday 13 May at 11.30 the book ‘A step forward for Europe’ will be discussed, with Valdo Spini and professors Mercedes Bresso and Alfonso Maria Giordano.

There are 33 small and medium-sized publishers who will exhibit a selection of titles at the Region’s stand: an opportunity made possible thanks to the public notice announced by the Regional Council. Almost everyone has organized an event and will receive a lump sum reimbursement from the Region for their participation.

Furthermore, the regional council has established a fund aimed at contributing to the expenses of Tuscan publishers present at the Fair with their own stand. There are 14 Tuscan publishers who have submitted the application.

For the first time this year, Tuscany has also organized a free rail transport service with a charter train, aimed at 450 Tuscan citizens, to participate in the Turin International Book Fair. The trip is financed by the regional council and council with the support of Unicoop, the Wimbledon association and Dieci. The idea was born within the projects to support reading and the book supply chain, launched within the path of the General States of Culture, in collaboration between the Culture Commission, the Council and the Council.
