Municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena – OPEN MONUMENTS 2024, ABOUT SEVEN THOUSAND PRESENCES IN OPEN SITES IN THE CITY

Another beautiful weekend of culture in Quartu with the city stage of Open Monuments, which recorded extraordinary public participation, testifying to the beautiful historical-archaeological heritage present in the area, but also to the great interest in our history and our art, both by the inhabitants and by the visitors who came for the occasion.

There were 26 historical-archaeological sites open this year; for each of them it was possible to delve deeper into the secrets, the style, the anecdotes thanks to the many volunteers who wanted to give their contribution, guaranteeing added value to the event. There were almost 700 associations, scouts, professionals, committees, ordinary citizens and, as always, young people from the school community.

A general involvement, a cultural rebirth that has been affecting Quartu for some years now and which in this specific case has led almost 7 thousand people to visit our material heritage. The historic churches, the former Capuchin Convent which has recently become a cultural center of reference for Quartu, and the majesty of the Nuraghe Diana are the most sought-after destinations.

And precisely the megalithic structure from the Nuragic age located at the eastern end of the Quarto area was the site with the record number of visitors of this 2024 edition of the event promoted by the Imago Mundi Association and organized with the collaboration of the Municipality. Around a thousand people who, thanks also to the beautiful sunny days, took advantage of the opportunity to go and discover the nuraghe overlooking the coast, the closest to the regional capital.

However, there were also many who wanted to discover the beauty and charm of the former Capuchin Convent in via Brigata Sassari. Over 600 signatures in the registers of the municipal headquarters, where exhibitions, conferences, conventions, book presentations and even music are hosted, such as the preview of the Andrea Parodi Prize and the Alirio Diaz Festival, which in the next few days will enliven the structure with the 6th edition.

Many people also wanted to see the ancient churches of the historic center, with Sant’Efisio and Santa Maria di Cepola the absolute protagonists (the combination earned 1000 signatures), also thanks to the evocative atmosphere created by the concerts of the Luigi Rachel Civic School of Music. Sa Dom’e Farra and Sant’Agata are also appreciated as always; and the recently built religious building in the Pitz’e Serra district also attracted the attention of many: San Giovanni Evangelista with the crypt and presbytery, with almost 550 visitors.

From exhibitions to concerts, from dances to live painting, from games to literature: the many special activities have certainly attracted the attention of many in this 28th edition of Open Monuments, which continues to grow year after year. Quartu has shown he can play a leading role.
