the eighth edition dedicated to documentary cinema is underway

The section of the L’Aquila Film Festival dedicated to documentary cinema reaches its eighth edition.

The event, which will take place at the Palazzetto dei Nobili between 7 and 17 May, will consist of an exhibition and the competition space, as well as a space reserved for secondary school students.

The screenings will be enriched by the presence of directors, guests and speakers and will be “Erasmus Friendly”, i.e. also accessible in English for Erasmus students, foreign workers, tourists and migrants.

The event will open with the film “Vengo anch’io – Enzo Jannacci” by Giorgio Verdelli and the presence in the room of the director himself and the members of the Policulturali Orchestra of Piazza Palazzo who will perform some songs by the great Milanese singer-songwriter.

On May 14th it will be the turn of “20 days in Mariupol” by Mstyslav Chernov; the screening, organized in collaboration with the “24 February” Association of L’Aquila, shows the images taken by the reporter during his recent stay in Mariupol and will be introduced by Maria Kristina Ilnytska.

On May 15, the director Pappi Corsicato, welcomed by Luigia Lonardelli, senior curator of the MAXXI – National Museum of XXI Century Arts, will present his “Jeff Koons – A private portrait” to the Festival public.

On the same day, “Sex, Cinema and Power – Brainwashed” by Nina Menkes will be screened (VM viewing age 18), a lucid analysis on the correlation between the role of women in the professional world of cinema and its representation in films. Professor Serena Guarracino and the Collective Out of Gender will speak.

On May 16th the event will close with the screening of the film “Innocence” by Guy Davidi on the permanent state of war in Israel and the consequent generalized enlistment of boys and girls.

However, four films have been selected for the competition: “LA CASA VIOLA” by Maria Grazia Liguori and Francesco Calandra, which tells of many stories of women who have lived in a refuge following mistreatment; “IN GALERA” by Michele Rho, which tells of the starred restaurant of the same name opened in the Bollate prison and in which the inmates work, thus putting themselves to the test in view of their reintegration into society. The actor Pietro Becattini, theater actor and author of the project “Don Quixote behind bars” will speak; “ROGER…THE PRESIDENT IS COMING!” by Marco Chiarini, an atypical story of a Teramo awaiting the visit of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella; “THE PERFORMANCE” by Caterina Clerici and Alfredo Chiarappa, the story of the American dream of a Kurdish dancer in search of fame.

All films in competition will be presented by the authors.

All screenings will have free entry with an ethical ticket; Reservation is strongly recommended.
