With an investment of 17.5 million euros, work on the new underpass on the Verona-Rovigo railway line has begun.

Work began today in Cerea, in the province of Verona, which will lead to the suppression of three level crossings on the Verona – Legnago – Rovigo railway linelocated on Via Isolella Bassa and Vicolo San Zeno.

“With an investment of 17.5 million euros7 of which financed by the Region, one of the interventions planned for the redevelopment of the Rovigo – Verona railway line begins today – explained the Vice President of the Veneto Region and Councilor for Infrastructure and Transport, Elisa De Berti, present today in Cerea -. The work is part of a broader program of interventions thanks to an agreement signed with RFI in July 2017 which provided for the allocation of 117.6 million euros, 45 million of which were financed by the Region. An investment and important design work as part of the renewal process of the railway network undertaken for some years for the performance and functional improvement of the Venetian infrastructural heritage, and implemented in synergy with the local administrations”.

The intervention, carried out by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, the leading company of the Infrastructure Hub of the FS Italiane Regione Group, will see the creation of a underpass with a length of approximately 350 metreswhich will pass under the railway line and which will be completed by the construction of the complementary road system, which will develop parallel to the railway line for approximately 650 metres.

“From September the Rovigo – Verona line will be managed by Trenitaliaconcluded the Vice President –. Furthermore, at the end of the year, the first hybrid trains will enter service while in 2025, once the electrification of the Adria-Mestre is completed, we will have further trains for increasingly better travel conditions. Furthermore, we will shortly open technical discussions with RFI and the Municipalities interested in the electrification of the Cerea-Isola della Scala and, therefore, of the entire line between Verona and Legnago. A program of interventions undertaken for some years to improve the efficiency, safety and accessibility of the railway network”.
