Near tragedy on Lake Como: “Bus-car intersection on the Regina, the pedestrian climbed to save himself”

A chilling scene that is reported to us by the architect Donatella Cervi, direct witness of what happened this morning on the Regina State Road, in this case in the old part. Once again traffic, extremely burdened by the circulation of gigantic tourist buses, is at the center of events, moreover when there are only a few days left before the entry into force of the ordinance which from 12 May will regulate the transit of buses and heavy vehicles. But we hear directly from Donatella Cervi what happened this morning, a real near tragedy.

In recent days there has been complete chaos on the Regina and in the entire area from Tavernola downwards: hours of queuing and unlikely traffic jams. The buses begin to head round the ‘lakeside road’ which, full of construction sites, is already partially blocked.

This morning there was a near tragedy: a touring coach traveling along the old Regina, and which obviously couldn’t keep everything in its lane due to the sharp curves, crossed paths with a car in the opposite direction.

Seeing the roadway occupied, the latter pressed close to the wall and a pedestrian who heard the tires and brakes screeching, promptly climbed the wall. TRAGEDY OVERCOME.

Everyone was in disbelief at what had happened, with the bus driver speeding up and leaving as if nothing had happened. I think we’ll see some good ones soon, the season has just begun. Perhaps we should restore the closure of roads to heavy vehicles as in past years.
