Tuesday 7 May is the day on which part of the population of Viterbo will have to leave their homes to allow operations to defuse the unexploded war device, dating back to the Second World War. The discovery of the bomb last March 20 during excavations for the construction of a real estate complex.

There are just a few hours left until the start of the evacuation of part of the capital of Tuscia. Affected by the operations is the area of ​​the city of Viterbo within a radius of 1400 meters from the point of discovery of the bomb. Citizens living in this area will have to leave their homes no later than 9am on May 7th and until the end of the operations. From 6 am on May 7, gates manned by the police will be activated along the perimeter of the evacuation zone to prevent access to the area, but facilitate outflow.

Before leaving their homes, citizens will have to check that the water taps are closed and close the gas meter valve. It will be allowed to bring pets with you.

People who will have to evacuate are reminded to bring with them: usual medications, mobile phone, identity documents; essential things for children (spare parts, diapers, space-saving toys); eyeglasses and hearing aids.

In an area up to a radius of 500 meters from the point of discovery of the bomb, the supply of gas and electricity will be suspended from 7am and for the entire duration of the operations (the use of high-performance generators is permitted). maximum power up to 3 KW). Also in this area it is recommended to avoid the use of lifts and pay particular attention to electric gates.

The beginning and end of the cleanup will be signaled with sirens and will also be communicated on the municipality’s official channels.

From 7pm on May 6th the red area will be flown over by drones for control and to avoid any cases of looting. The devices will transmit the images directly to the police headquarters operations center.

In the area up to a radius of 500 meters from the point where the bomb was found, parking along the streets will be prohibited. To make it easier for the population, the municipality will make the car parks of the Sacrario and Viale Raniero Capocci accessible free of charge from 8pm on 6 May.

Three reception centers will be set up where the evacuated population can go: the parish of Santa Barbara, the parish of Santa Maria della Grotticella (Mazzetta) and the parish church of the Holy Family (Carmine, Salamaro).

Citizens who cannot go independently to the reception centers will be able to take advantage of a special free transport service made available by the municipality, active from 6am to 8.45am which will stop at the following 24 “collection points”, identified by specific signs: piazza Beata Maria de Mattias, via Genova (parking near BNL), via Monte Cervino (local police parking), piazza Atleti Azzurri d’Italia, via I. Nievo (in front of the Geko bar), via C. Cattaneo, via San Biele, Rocchi stadium (parking), viale B. Buozzi, viale Trento, piazzale San Bernardino da Siena, piazza Gustavo Adolfo, via Friuli (park), piazza San Sisto, piazza Plebiscito, piazza dei Caduti, piazzale Gramsci, piazza Verdi (of the Theatre) , piazza Crispi, via Tarquini, viale Trieste, piazza del Santuario (La Quercia), via Vicenza (in front of the San Crispino hill), via Garbini (parking in front of the municipal offices).

Once the clean-up operations have been completed, the shuttle buses will take the people back to the collection points with the reverse route. During the time of the operations, as requested by the Local Health Authority through a note from the municipality, it is preferable for the population to go to the emergency room of the Belcolle hospital only in case of necessity, after consulting the family doctor.

As regards the return phases at the end of the operations, the municipality invites the population to reopen the meter tap without turning on the lights and check, by smelling, whether there are gas leaks. If you smell gas, do not turn on the electrical switches, ventilate the house by opening doors and windows and call the gas technician.
