Moretti’s protest continues: “I want justice”

The protest of Leonardo Moretti, a 61-year-old from Turin but resident in Umbria, who has been climbing onto the crane in front of the Palace of Justice since May 2nd, shows no signs of stopping.

A place that he did not choose by chance.

After receiving an eviction sentence years ago and various vicissitudes, Moretti was given a five-year sentence of extortion by the Perugia court, which he said was unfair. To try to subvert the court’s judgment – the sentence is final – the man would at least like to serve his sentence in an alternative way to prison. For this reason, last December he had tried to denounce the judges who had condemned him with a complaint to the court of Florence, but without success.

Yesterday prosecutor Christine Von Bomes also tried to talk to us to try to dissuade him. But she couldn’t do it. Moretti asked the public prosecutor to contact his lawyer and delve deeper into his legal case.

However, optimism filters through: we expect – and hope – that the man may decide to go down in the next few hours.
