OCCHIOBELLO – Next Sunday, May 12th, the appointment with the Polesine VogaLunga returns, now in its second edition after a good debut of last year.
VoLuPo is part of the promotional actions of the project to enhance the river villages of the lands between the Adige and the Po, financed with a tender from the Ministry of Tourism intended for small municipalities with a population of less than 5 thousand inhabitants. The event is organized by the Remiero Adigetto Group based in Canda and member of Assonautica Acque Interne Veneto ed Emilia which, thanks to the contribution of the Venice-Rovigo Chamber of Commerce, supports nautical initiatives that promote the promotion of the territory.
The event benefits from the support of Banca Annia and the patronage of the Province of Rovigo and various local administrations such as Sermide and Felonica, in the province of Mantua, and Ficarolo, Gaiba and Villanova del Ghebbo, original headquarters of the Remiero Group.
The soul and driving force of this initiative is Eligio Garbo, president of the Remiero Adigetto Group, a local reality that has always promoted Venetian rowing and human-powered navigation in general: “This year VoLuPo takes on an international appearance with the participation of a Spanish crew that the following week will take part in the Vogalonga, reaching the Venice Lagoon with a transfer that will take place by rowing along the Po itself”, the 2024 edition will see crews from Veneto, Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna in the water, confirming the importance of an event capable of attracting dozens of boats from all over Northern Italy, ideally embracing, on a day of celebration, the territory of three regions also with collateral events, such as that of Fiab Rovigo which offers a 55 kilometer cycle ring.
The non-competitive descent, open to owners of rowing boats, canoes, kayaks and SUPs, also finds the exceptional godmother, the regional councilor Laura Cestari, present at the Sermide start. Laura Cestari, born and raised along the banks of the great river in Ficarolo, recently saw the approval of her bill on river tourism which became a regional law on the subject of navigation in inland waters. An authoritative and qualifying presence for the event, Voga Lunga Polesine starts from Sermide, in the province of Mantua, with the gathering of the boats, moves to Gaiba at 10 for the departure, Gaiba will also host lunch, to arrive at Santa Maria Maddalena after 33 kilometers.
