Crotone – The city experiences the Marian month, with its religious celebrations, this year at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, and the external moments that make Crotone a different month.
“It’s Easter for the people of Crotone”, Monsignor Giuseppe Agostino used to saythe Bishop who led the Crotone church from the post-Council until 1998. This year, in fact, marks the tenth anniversary of his passing and tomorrow afternoon, in the Council Hall of the Municipality of Crotone, the prelate will be remembered by Monsignor Giancarlo Bregantini, bishop emeritus of Campobasso-Boiano. In fact, it was one of the historic priests of the Church of Santa Chiara Bregantini, for everyone Father Giancarloordained deacon, priest and bishop by Monsignor Agostino.
And today, at the parish of Santa Chiara, in the heart of the historic center and one of the oldest churches in Crotone, we photographed the ancient effigy of the Madonna di Capo Colonna preserved right in the Crotone place of worship. It is ancient, from the 1600s, and reproduces the original before the theft. The effigy preserved in the monastic complex of Santa Chiaratakes the Virgin from the Church of Santa Veneranda, brought back inside the Church that hosted the cloistered nuns.
In ancient times, after the Madonna of Capo Colonna was carried in procession on Colle Lacinio, it entered the Monastery of Santa Chiara, where it was exposed for three days for the prayers of the Poor Clares and the people of Crotone who gathered there.
