So the Goretti doctors saved Bruno

Bruno, the 17-year-old boy involved in a car accident on the evening of April 6 in Latina, who returned home last Thursday after almost a month spent in hospital, is miraculously alive. A miracle of recovery, made possible thanks to the doctors of the “anesthesia and resuscitation” department of the Santa Maria Goretti hospital, who saved his life.

The strong impact on the asphalt, after being thrown from the scooter, caused him respiratory distress (a fatal disease because the walls of the pulmonary capillaries do not function and become permeable). Intubated, sedated, connected to mechanical ventilation, Bruno was subjected to a series of pronation cycles, essential to allow him to breathe independently again. The prone posture modified the evolution of respiratory failure, improving oxygenation.

«Saving human lives, especially young people, gives satisfaction and unique emotions», commented Goretti’s head of resuscitation, Fabio Nania, proud of his team.
