Mary Wegerski was born on September 2, 1917 to Stella and Albin Kolakowski in Rome, NY. Lei’s departure on March 4th is deeply felt by her entire family. Mary and her eight siblings lived in Syracuse, NY where she met and married her high school sweetheart, John P. Wegerski on September 4th, 1943. Mary and John (Spig) were both exceptional athletes and Mary excelled in running, speed skating and tennis . Known for her flaming red hair, Mary was a beauty queen, a talented artist, and a dedicated wife and mother who lived life to the fullest. A graduate of Vocational High School and part time student at Syracuse University, she was employed as a designer at Syracuse China, the private secretary to the President of Carrier Corporation and an Administrative Assistant and Truant Officer at Central Square High School. In addition, she applied her creative and organizational skills to developing a small housing association on Oneida Lake. Mary and her beloved husband resided in the home they built in Brewerton, NY and upon retiring, spent their winters in Naples, Florida. Mary is survived by her daughter, Carol W. Crawford, her son John P. Wegerski Jr., her daughter-in-law, Linda, grandchildren, Johnna MacArthur, Mara Ciciarellli, and Johnny Wegerski III (Katie) and four great-grandchildren , Stella, Vaida, Jack and Blake. Mary’s love of family, her grace and perseverance, are an inspiration, and she remains in our hearts. A private family service will be held at her burial site in Parish, NY on May 10th.
