Ancona, 4 May 2024 – “We have moved the event here to bring him closer to the people, to the people of Ancona. It is a pride for me to reward those who have distinguished themselves in increasing the honor of the city.” Thus the mayor of Ancona, Daniele Silvetti, on the stage in Piazza del Plebiscito, better known as Piazza del Papa, at the opening of the ceremony for the awarding of civic merits to citizens who have stood out for particular social and community merits. The event, held for the first time in a new location, attracted hundreds of people to the center in day of the patron saint, San Ciriacowhich also gives its name to the usual May fair, scheduled from 30 April to 5 May, but also to the prizes awarded this evening, the ciriachini precisely.
After the saint mass at the Duomo cathedral, political, religious and military authorities, the almost complete Municipal Council and Council and the citizens descended into the heart of Ancona for the event which began around 7.15pm. It went to the provincial fire brigade command gold medal, received by commander Pierpaolo Patrizietti but “to be shared with all the women and men of the Corps. The honor makes us proud, but also makes us reflect on the great responsibility we have in continuing our work”.
Among the reasons that led the administration to choose the firefighters among the eligible candidates, the commitment to “the activity carried out following the earthquake of November 9, 2022. The Provincial Command of Ancona carried out over 2500 static checks, mainly concentrated in the municipality of Ancona (90 percent). These activities were carried out with commitment 11 teams of verification technicians also coming from other Commands (including extra-regional), as well as calling into service on a daily basis around 50 percent of the actual operational staff, mainly from the Ancona headquarters. An average of 200 static checks were carried out per day during the period of maximum activity, and numerous interventions were carried out to remove unsafe parts from the buildings”, we read in the parchment.
Silver ciriachini to Salvatore Lo Faro, Adelchi Tonucci, Alberto Caporalini, Benito Osimani, Filotea Francesco Severoni, Francesco Corvaro, as well as around eighty civic merits to citizens, associations, law enforcement agencies and rescuers.
The moment of awarding the prize is poignant to the memory of Stefano Crispiani, former city councilor, who died in 2022. Endless applause welcomed the family members, in front of the audience who all stood up (the first being Mayor Silvetti), for the delivery of the certificate by the president and deputy of the city council, Simone Pizzi and Francesco Rubini. The ceremony ended at 8.40pm, after more than an hour.
