The situation of the waiting lists at the Salerno ASL continues to generate concern among citizens and healthcare personnel. For a dermatological visit you have to wait until December 30th for the Cava de’ Tirreni clinic or July 8th in Maiori. On this Mario Polichetti, trade unionist of the provincial Uil Fpl and head of the Risk Pregnancy department at the Salerno hospital, has released important statements to shed light on the problem.

“The continuous postponement of specialist visits is unacceptable and puts the health of our patients at serious risk. We can no longer tolerate citizens waiting for timely treatment and diagnosis being treated with such superficiality. Waiting lists represent one of the most serious emergencies of our health system, and require immediate and decisive interventions”.

Polichetti underlines how the situation is no longer sustainable: “I consider it unacceptable that for a dermatology visit you have to wait until December 30th for the Cava de’ Tirreni clinic and July 8th in Maiori, in the middle of summer where you can move around the Amalfi Coast It’s chaos for everyone, it’s just the latest in a series of episodes that demonstrate inadequate management of healthcare resources. The repercussions on patients’ health are evident and serious. Every day of delay can mean a worsening of the medical condition in some cases, it can be fatal.”

The trade unionist and head doctor points the finger at the lack of staff and adequate resources: “We are on the front line, but often without the necessary tools to carry out our work in the best way. There is an urgent need to strengthen staff and investments in the healthcare sector Only in this way can we guarantee an efficient service and adequately respond to the needs of the Salerno population.”

Polichetti concludes with an appeal to the competent authorities: “We strongly ask the institutions to intervene immediately to resolve this crisis. Patients have the right to dignified and timely care. Health cannot wait.”
