In the meeting with the press held today in Messina, Captain Ultimo, Sergio De Caprio, launched a passionate appeal to fight against the mafia and to the social and economic regeneration of Sicily. Next to him, the mayor of Messina, Federico Basile, and the Honorable Ismaele La Vardera, vice president of the ARS anti-mafia commission, expressed their support for a cause that goes beyond regional borders to embrace an entire nation.

The speech of Captain Ultimo, currently a candidate for the European elections with the Libertà list led by Cateno De Luca in the Southern constituency, was touching and full of pathos, reflecting his profound dedication to the cause of legality and justice. He spoke of his youth spent in Sicily, a land tormented by mafia violence and the abandonment of the State. But he also highlighted the beauty and cultural richness of Sicily, underlining the crucial role it could play in Europe’s relaunch in the Mediterranean.

Captain Ultimo’s key proposal was to exclude mafia members from political rights and the world of work, highlighting the need for concrete and decisive actions against organized crime. He denounced the indifference of the established powers in the face of such decisive proposals, underlining the timidity and psychological subservience towards the mafias which hinder efforts to eradicate them.

His appeal for popular mobilization was clear: it is time to open our eyes, join hands and raise our voices against the mafias that have sucked the blood of the Sicilian people. It is a revolt for the common good, a call to unite and take concrete actions against the mafia looters who have devastated the lives of many.

But Captain Ultimo’s speech was not limited to the Italian reality. He broadened his gaze to Europe, urging all European citizens and European municipalities to be the true protagonists of the future of the continent. He criticized centralized governments that have brought misery and wars, highlighting the need for a new approach based on collaboration between municipalities and the valorization of local resources.

His proposal to sell renewable energy to create prosperity and resources available to municipalities was received with interest, highlighting his innovative vision oriented towards the well-being of communities.

After the meeting with the press, Captain Ultimo went together with the mayor and the Honorable La Vardera to the areas subject to city redevelopment, demonstrating a concrete commitment to improving living conditions in neighborhoods affected by crime and abandonment.
