Caserta / San Felice a Cancello – The Caserta State Police have arrested two people, aged 66 and 68, wanted for a conviction for forest fire. The Flying Squad traced the two to their places of origin, in Caserta and San Felice a Cancello. In 2012, they had caused, in concert, a serious forest fire, on a very large area of over 300 thousand square meters on the hilly side of “Monte Montone”, classified as having significant landscape importance, and with a strong tourist vocation, as it is near the village medieval town of Casertavecchia. Those arrested, sheep farmers at the time, had set the fire to renew the fertility of the land with the ashes produced by combustion and to expand the grazing areas, even in areas covered by woods. They were sentenced to approximately 5 years in prison because, following the trial, they were found responsible for arson. The two were associated with the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison.
