Two teams of students of the Sarrocchi Institute of Siena were admitted to participate in the final session of National robotics championships which will be held at the M9 Museum in Mestre from 6 to 8 May 2024.

The teams, directed by the Electronics and Robotics teacher Andrea Gorelli, are made up of 7 students from the fourth and fifth grades of the Technical Institute, specializing in Electronics and Robotics and Computer Science: Emma Borghi, Juan Jose Binarelli, Giovanni Chiarelli, Nian Corbo, Filippo Corsi, Gabriele Capitani and Andrea Nassi.

The young designers will present two creations with high technological content, of important social value and great entrepreneurial potential: the evolution of the automated wheelchair, already selected in October 2023 for participation in the Rome Maker Faire, will compete in the Citizen Services category; the new robotic assembly line simulator was instead selected for the Craft professions category.

The national robotics championships, now in their fourth edition, are organized by the Robotics School in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Merit and the Museo del Novecento of Mestre (M9); they are a free competition, dedicated to selected students from upper secondary schools, whose objective is to promote and support the educational potential of robotics with particular reference to STEM (scientific-technological) subjects.

The team competition includes two moments: in the first the students will be interviewed by a team of specialists, to whom they will have to present their inventions, arguing the design effectiveness and functional efficiency. In this first phase of the competition, both the knowledge and technical skills of the children will come into play, as well as some very important transversal skills that are also useful and sought after in the world of work. A second phase of the competition will instead consist of a hackathon, a very widespread form of competition in the technological and IT fields: students will have to develop a group project with objectives and times defined in the field of coding. Victory in the championship will go to the team that receives the best scores in both the first and second phases.

The 2024 edition will address a new theme: robotics at the service of the world of work. The projects presented will have to identify solutions for the creation of a competition relating to the potential of robotics, improve working conditions and safety in the workplace, contributing to the well-being of workers, the services offered to citizens and the opportunities for applying robotics to professions artisanal to improve productivity and product quality.

Once again the Sarrocchi Institute confirms itself among the Sienese excellences in the field of technological innovation: of the only 30 schools admitted to the final phase of the competition, Tuscany is represented exclusively by the Sarrocchi of Siena and the Gramsci-Keynes of Prato.
